my sons charges were dropped down to simple burglary then dropped down again to a 27?? what does that mean?

I am not certain. The attempt statute is Section 27 in the Criminal Code (also known as R.S. 14:27). If your son is charged with Attempted Simple Burglary, then the maximum imprisonment is 1/2 of what it would be for Simple Burglary. This means the biggest risk fell from 12 years to 6.
