Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
right to a speedy trial
I recieved a letter to participate in pre trial intervention on 4 outstanding misdermeanders, dating back to jan 2006. I was recently released from prison on dec. 2007,after 16mos. I am sure they checked on any outstanding charges but none were found. I recall reading about time limits for speedy trials and am desperate for any information and procedures i could follow in this matter. I live in Louisiana and any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated

Re: right to a speedy trial
You can file for a speedy trial and the State has to try with within 120 days or you are released from your bond obligations. It really does not force them to try you within 120 days.
There are separate periods that they must commence trial which depends on when the crime was committed and when they filed formal charges.
