Theft of services
i drive a cab,had a passenger who could not pay fare,i accepted an i o u
cause i didn't want the guy to get into trouble, guy hasn't paid up,it's been a week can i have charges filed after allowing the guy to leave with a promise to pay,or will i have to take other steps to recieve payment for the services i have already provided???

I would be surprised if the police and prosecutors are interested when you let the guy walk away. You might have to sue him.

Once you accepted an IOU, the debt was was converted from being owed immediately to one with a promise to pay later. Therefore, you have to treat this as money owed and sue him.
