Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

Tricky marijuana cultivation case

128 marijuana plants were recently found in my rented home by the police while i was working on an offshore oil rig. They did not have a search warrant, consent(supposedly) was given by a housesitter/roommate. One AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle and one hunting rifle was found as well(both legal). I have been charged with cultivation of marijuana and possesion of a firearm in the presence of a dangerous substance. My concern is that the weapons will fall under Federal jurisdiction making me subject to MMS laws if i am convicted. I have heard that sometimes the feds don't pick up cases like this. I understand constructive possesion laws, but would this translate into use of a weapon to commit a felony? Does anyone know the probablity of the feds prosecuting? Thank you for your time.

Re: Tricky marijuana cultivation case

There is definitely the possibility that Federal authorities would be interested in this case. They would certainly have jurisdiction for any number of reasons. I would suggest obtaining legal counsel as soon as possible. The decisions you make now could very well determine the course in which this matter will proceed.
