Legal Question in DUI Law in Louisiana

Alcohol Abuse along with Mental Health Issues

I have a 45 year old adult male friend who abuses alcohol and has some mental health issues. Due to his mental illness he refusing to voluntarily admit himself into a rehab center. Although he has never been caught driving with drunk, it will be only a matter of time before he does. Is there any laws in the State of Louisiana that allow a family member to commit another adult family member to a rehab center against their will? If we can only get him committed and alcohol free then we will be able to treat his mental illness with medications.

Any information would be appreciated.

Re: Alcohol Abuse along with Mental Health Issues

The coroner in the parish he resides in can have him committed for 72 hours for detox. The closest relative should contact the coroner.
