Legal Question in DUI Law in Louisiana

Probation terms of DWI

I received a DWI in louisiana and got probation, community service, all that. Anyhow, there were no drugs involved in the offense but they say I have to take a Urinalysis, only they didnt say what they were testing for? Will it be alcohol or will it be a multiple drug screen? I'm curious in general if they will test for marijuana

More than likely, a condition of your probation is to submit to random drug screens and to remain drug and alcohol free. I would think they can test for anything.

Dear LawGuru Friend,

My experience teaches me that it could be anything they test for. You are on probation;, and in theory, you belong to them. I would make certain that you did not test positive for any kind of an illegal drug. It is not a crime to consume alcoholic beverages, so long as you don't get drunk in public, nor drive a car while under the influence. Nevertheless, whatever kind of a substance test you have to take, my guess is that it will not be for alcohol, but for some kind of an illegal drug, such as marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, etc. Good luck!

Sincerely,
