Legal Question in DUI Law in Louisiana

How does the process of expungement Work?

I was issued a DWI 5 years ago, if was filed under article 894,and this past March I filled out a form for expungement. My questions are what does all of that mean and what will it mean for me if I am thinking about applying for a job that does driving background check and criminal background? Since I have filled out a form for expungement will that be as good as saying I never got a DWI or how does all that work. Will it still show on my criminal history? Can I say now that I have never got a DWI?

Re: How does the process of expungement Work?

Expungement will keep most potential employers from seeing the conviction in a routine background check. However, the crime is enhanceable (for subsequent offenses) and thus it is visible to certain governmental officials even if expunged, e.g., district attorneys and police. Expunged crimes may or may not have to be revealed when seeking professional licensing, however. By way of example, I understand that some bar associations are asking candidates sitting for the bar to reveal convictions which were expunged. Hope this was helpful to you.
