Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My 7 year old neice has been living with my husband and I for 3 years. My sister has never helped financally with any of her needs and barely came around to see her. Now she's angry with my husband and me and wants to take her back. Do we have any legal rights?

You have no "legal rights." However, you can file for custody of the child and under the circumstances you may be successful. You may not, so be ready for that possibility.
