Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
I'm 15 years old, and my boyfriend is 18. I'm turning 16 in two weeks. We have been together for about a year and a half; he was 17, and I was 15 still.
My entire family is perfectly fine with our relationship, because it is not a sexual one. We have no intentions on doing anything sexual, and it's been that way for a year. His family, however, is against our relationship because "it's illegal." From my knowledge, the age of consent (17) only applies for marriage and/or sexual purposes, NOT for simple relationships without anything sexual going on. Also, from my knowledge, if both parties's parents are okay with the relationship of their children, then it's completely legal so long as there is nothing sexual going on.
My question is: Because he is 18 years old, does his mother even have a say in whether or not we're together, so long as my parents are fine with it? Also, IS it legal for he and I to be together?

Until you are 17, any sexual activity between you is legally a problem. You can be friends. You can go to movies together. You can eat together. You can hold hands. You can even kiss. Until your 17th birthday, I would suggest that you draw the line right there. In other states the line might be 18, so be aware of where you are. It is refreshing to know that there are young people who are waiting to have sex. Best wishes to you both.
