Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
adjustment in child support
I took my ex to court 10 years ago to have child support garnished from his check. Since then, both of our incomes have changed, he only has one other daughter to support who's 17. My question is, do I have to hire an attorney again, just to find out if he could provide additional support? He claims that he pays too much.

Re: adjustment in child support
Go online and check Louisiana Revised Statutes Title 9:315.19 and compute the child support by reading the tables that apply to your situation. Use your gross monthly income, and his gross monthly income to determine the total for computation purposes, then take his percentage of that total times the child support shown in the appropriate column for the applicable number of children. In order to obtain an increase, there has to be a significant change, not just a change in the amount. Paying for another child that is not yours together is considered in the computation work sheet under 9:315.20.
