Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Adoption
I would really love to have an answer to this. I put my daughter up for adoption after my husband abused her physically at the time, had not money to take care of her, and was going through depression and post partum. I believe it was not an open adoption. It's been 3 years and I'm still miserable but better emotionally. She has been adopted as of a couple of months ago and I would like to know if there is anything I can do to have visitation rights or anything at all regarding contact with her. I'm in the military and I could be going to Iraq and may never see her again. Is there anything I can do to?? Please help!! Everyone is telling me to give up and that nothing's possible. But I can never give up on her. She's my only child.

Re: Adoption
I assume you gave up your daughter through the office of community services with the state of Louisiana. In the surrender you signed, there should be a paragraph listing a registry that you can contact and see if they will help you. You could go to the attorney who did the surrender, or the OCS worker you dealt with and ask them to ask the adoptive couple if they would be willing to meet or speak with you. I admire what you did for your child, and know that she is doing wonderfully. If you cannot ever see her again, you have to understand that you gave her a better life, and that you are giving all of us a better life by your service for your/our country. E-mail me if you need to discuss this. As it stands, there is nothing you can file to force the visits.
