Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

my american husband does abuse me emotional

Hi, I am married for 14 months to a Louisiana citizen. My husband abuses me emotional (silent treatment for days, threatens to beat me up whenever I try to talk to him, ...). He told me ''I can just leave if I can't cope'', but Louisiana law says: everything purchased prior to marriage is not a common properties...so the house, his boat, his guns ...all that is his alone? I helped him remodel for the past months and upgraded his home with 50000 value. My husband considers me responsible for half of the debt we made because of remodeling which is 10000...don't I have any rights? I do not have the GC yet...and I don't know if I should wait for that considering my husband makes my life a living hell.

What can I do? I depend finincial and emotional on him alone...I don't even know how to get a divorce here or where to go...help.

There is federal law protecting abused alien spouses. I am not certain about the precise terminology because I am not an immigration lawyer. Contact your local abused women's shelter. They will have access to lawyers in this field.
