Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Burial and any other expenses

My father divorced my mother when I was 17 and I have just recently saw him in hospital (he is last stages of cancer and has 2-3 weeks to live. He has no burial insurance and he is living with a women but they did not marry. She receives his social security check and only gives him $20. He is now in an extended care facility but she still received the check. Her daughter used him medicare to purchase a power scotter chair which turned out to be to big for the house they live in, so her grand children call it their 4-wheeler and ride it in back yard. My question is this, Can my sister and I be had legally responsible for any burial expenses or any other kind of medical bills or any other bills in general? He lives in Louisiana and I live in Texas.
