Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

child custody

I'M the aunt of a nephew with a girlfriend and 2 kids ages 2 and 1 year. they have lived with me for almost 2 years and i would say that i have been the primary caretaker of these 2 kids. My question is how hard would it be for me to get custody of these kids should they split. both are on drugs. The mother has come home with bloodshot eyes, shows very little affection to these kids, someone mentions the word go and she will find someone to keep them if i don't.Has left them with me all weekend and not called to check on them. i feel she is cheating on him at present. has brought the younger child to me with a cut on his foot which i had to tend to because partying was more important, i'm afraid that if she has them they will be left with no telling who and i don't want them in an enviroment where every tom dick and harry will come in and out and drugs. she has 2 to other kids her mom takes care of and 1 she doesn't know where she is. the girl is only 22 the father no better cause he has a very bad anger problem. he beats her but she keeps going back. so what do i need to look for and keep track of to help me get those kids.

Re: child custody

If you are sure they are on drugs, then you need to call the State into the situation. Since they have lived with you all their lives, and you are related, then the State should leave them with you. However, the parents will probably be required to move out. Call your local OCS office.
