Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

child support modification

I have 2 questions. First, does the court go back to the date I filed for a reduction in support if it is granted? Second, what age does cs stop? Is it once they turn 18, or is it until they finish college?

Re: child support modification

Yes, the judgment is retroactive to the date of filing of the rule to modify. Child support stops at age 18 EXCEPT if the child is still in high school, then it ends upon graduation or dropping out, OR the age of 19, whichever occurs first. There is no legal duty to pay for college.
