Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

child support

I pay 1,100$ child support to my ex. We have 50/50 custody. My anual income is 90,000, hers is 45,000. She is now asking for ''extra'' money as our son is in his teenage years. The example I ask about is his highschool class ring, $410. She feels i should pay half, she feels this is an ''extra'' expense, beyond the child support. Is it? And if I do pay half, is this setting a presendence as more expenses come up? Isnt the over 1000$ a month supposed to cover these things?

Thank-you

Re: child support

I am confused. Do you have 50/50 custody, or do you mean joint custody? At any rate, if your figures are right, ie 90,000 for you and 45,000 for her, means your combined income is $11,250 a month. Under statute, the child support obligation for 1 child for parties making $11,500 a month, is $1,197. Your obligation is to pay 67% of the amount, with your ex paying 33%. Therefore, you would owe $797 as your support obligation. Why you were ordered to pay $1,197 is unclear unless there is extraordinary education/medical costs etc. So, you are paying plenty under the limited facts presented.
