Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

child support

Since the time my husband was placed on child support he has not had a job. The arrears has gotten to be really high. My questions are:

1. Is it too late to go to court and request a modification to the payment?

2. What does relinquishing custody mean?

3. Since the mother receive government issue benefits and any payments that was made the state kept. She asked us to send the payments to her and she would sign papers stated that she has since gone back on her word. What do we do?

4. She called and asked us to come and get the child for various reason. We went and picked the child up and moved her to texas to live. Once the mother saw how good the child was doing here she wanted her back. Can we get correct for that time?

5. The child will turn 18 in December will the regular child support stop then and we just try and get the arrears paid or will support continue until we get the arrears paid?

Re: child support

Contact a lawyer who practices family law.

1. No but it might be too expensive considering that the child is nearly 18.

2. Is your question about relinquishing custody or parental rights?

3. Pay the state. There is no guarantee that she will answer truthfully.

4. Child support ends upon the 18th birthday or High school graduation (as long as the child is under 19), whichever comes last.
