Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Community Debt

I paid off numerous community debts (credit cards, etc) that were incurred during my marriage. I filed divorce petition in 9/07, and in 10/08 we signed an agreement stating ''from date of this agreement, neither shall assume any joint debts'', it also states that I owe 50% of the debt on the mortgage of the house, but nothing more. My ex is now claiming I owe him for getting the house ready to sell, including his labor (he is not a contractor), and that I owe him for the money he ''voluntarily'' paid me for child support for 6 months before a court order was in place. He claims he owes me for nothing of what I paid off in community debts. Does he not owe me for the community debts? And do I owe him for ''labor'' that I can not prove he actually performed the amount of hours he is saying?

Re: Community Debt

You really should seek face to face counsel with your attorney because he can ask you all the detailed questions needed to properly answer your questions. But, based on what you wrote, his labor is usually not allowed, he cannot recoup any "voluntary" child support before the court order (it is his duty to support his child without a court order) and he usually would owe you 1/2 of the community bills paid after the petition is filed. Again, those are general answers without detailed information I would usually get from a client.
