Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
community property
We will be filing for divorce and dont
own a home; but do have a truck;
boat and a few misc posessions.
I am not clear how community
property works when filing for
divorce. If I file right now how does
that affect thing like the bank acct;
taxes; bill payments etc?

Re: community property
Louisiana is a community property state. Everything acquired during the marriage, including most debts, are 50/50. Once the judgment of divorce is signed, your community property regime ends as of the date of the filing of the petition for divorce. I would highly suggest consulting an attorney for more specifics on how community property laws affect your assets and debts.
