Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
I have a consent judgement against me for child support, I was to pay $319.20 per month, $254.00 + $12.70 admin fees for child support, $50.00 + $2.50 admin fees for the arrears, totaling $319.20. When my daughter turn of age, I was to pay only the $50 + $2.50 on the arrears, but I continued the admin fees from the child support $12.70 totaling $65.20 per month for the last seven years and in Oct2012 I received a garnishment letter sent to my employment. I have been been late twice in 7 years, but have always put a separate money order in the next payment an stated for what month. Is this legal after 7 years of consistent payment to issue a garnishment when I consent judgment has been order and signed by a judge. But, the baffling part out of it all, it was a private company, contracted out to the state who sent the garnishment letter not the state.

It is legal, but why didn't you keep paying the full amount and let that go to the arreages?
You never said how much the arrearages are but 65.20 X 84 months = $6,700+ so you must have owed a lot and still owe a lot of money. Had you paid 319 for the last 84 months, you would have paid over 26,000 bucks. Hopefully somewhere in that 84 months you would have had the arrearages paid off. They got tired of waiting and will now take a good chunk of your paycheck. What is the total owing still?
