Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Custody of 17 year old wanting to leave home to live with friends
My daughter is 17 years old will be 18 in January. She is moving out of my home and moving in with friends in another town. She will be doing this with or without my permission. For her to enroll in school the friends parent will need some kind of temporary custody to show that she has guardianship for my daughter. What is the best way to go about this.

Re: Custody of 17 year old wanting to leave home to live with friends
Dear LawGuru Friend,
All you need is a Provisional Custody by Mandate. Send me your address, and I will send you a form to fill out and have notarized, and that will do it. I suggest you not sign it until you appear before the notary public. It is revocable at any time, and it is good for one year. No charge for the legal form. I actually charge $50.00 to do one for a client, but that is just because the are generally glad to pay it and because we lawyers need to make some money to keep our offices open; but with the form, it sometimes bothers my consicience a little. I think I have done them for as cheap as $25.00, for people I know have very little money, and may have even done them free of charge. I would imagine some lawyers charge much more than this; for the rule of many lawyers is "whatever the traffic will bear." E-mail me your address to [email protected]; or [email protected] or FAX it to me at (337) 478-9933; or call it to me at (337) 478-6126. This form is good for Louisiana only, however. Best of luck!
Sincerely,
