Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My dad of 50 years died of mesothelioma cancer. After his death a lawsuit was filed .My sisters and brother and Mother each received 60,000 or more.The attorney that handled the suit said because my dad did n0t adoped me that I was not intiled to anything. During this suit I was just cast out like I was never in the family.I have tried to just forget it but,I can,t. I am on medication for depresion but, I can,t stop wondering why they have done this to me.Can anybody help me get piece of mind? There are still several lawsuits being filed.They lost a dad,I lost a whole family. sooooo sad Rose

Under Louisiana law the only survivors who can receive damages in a wrongful death case are a surviving spouse or relatives by blood or adoption. Even though this man was your father as you see it, he was not legally your father. I am sorry for your loss.
