Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Dead-beat Dad or Dead-beat Justice?

An individual from my past decided to name me as the father of her child. Without informing me, she placed me on child-support who has begun to garnish my wages before giving me the opportunity to contest paternity. Seven years ago the child was concieved. Family Support has been trying to locate since then. I've moved to many different locations during that time, to them proving my guilt. I am the one that contacted them when I noticed child support on my credit report. I then went to court where they finally granted me a test, yet they took my tax refund and begin garnishing 50% of my paycheck. Is this just?

Re: Dead-beat Dad or Dead-beat Justice?

You are correct. It is unfair how some people abuse the system.

The only solution is to force the courts to deal with you. If you are certain that you are not the father, then hire a lawyer and challenge everything. If you might be the father contact a lawyer about getting the court to order DNA tests. If you are the father, then you are limited to complaining about the amount of support ordered.
