Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

The divorce decree that I have with my ex-husband states that he is responsible for the payments on the house until it is sold, and then we will split the money equally. However, now he wants to refinance the home, because it wouldn't sell. Would a refinance invalidate the divorce decree and make me responsible for payments?

I suggest you have the home appraised and that his refinancing include buying you out of your interest in the home. The appraisal will help you arrive at a fair value to use in negotiation of the sale.
