Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Divorce forms needed to file on my own
I'm trying to file for divorce in Louisiana. What forms are required in Louisiana. I have a settlement agreement and petition for dissolution of marriage. Is anything else required to file?

Louisiana has several ways to file for a divorce: Civil Code Article 102 or Civil Code Article 103. Article 102 is followed if you have not already lived separate and apart for the proper length of time. Article 103 is followed if you have already lived separate and apart for the proper length of time. The separation period is 180 days if you do not have children and 365 days if you have children.
From your question it sounds like your forms are not Louisiana forms. Louisiana has a particular format that you should follow.
I do not recommend filing a divorce without an attorney as there are many issues that can be missed.

I agree with Mr. Hesser. Even for a relatively simple divorce, you would be wise to use an attorney and you should never assume that the other party doesn't have one. In fact, I always assume that they have spoken with an attorney before you have.
