Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Divorce and Property

My ex-husband bought a house 3 months before we were married and was suppose to put it in both our names after we were married and never did so i have no ownership whatsoever to the house. Now he states that I'm responsible for half of a home improvement loan that he took out on this house that he got after i moved out of the house. Am i responsible for half of this loan even though we were married at the time but i have no ownership on this house?

Re: Divorce and Property

Since the debt was incurred while you were married it is normally a community debt. The big problem is that the lender/mortgage holder is not responsible for your problems and is entitled to all of the debtors available at the time the loan was made.

The other side of this is that if you paid debts which only benefit him, he owes you for your share of his payments.
