Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
I am divorced and my ex husband is recently married. He and his wife told my children 3 & 5 that now that the new wife is their stepmother, them they can call her mom. My 5 year old son does not, but my daughter does. My ex has been seeing this woman since my daughter was 1, so now calling her mom is a habit. They did not correct her before they were married either. I tried to get my ex to correct her, but he never would. He knows it bothers me and he is a jerk. I now have money to go back to court in need be in this matter, but was wondering if judges get involved in this type of issue or if they consider it petty. Can they make him start correcting my daughter and tell her to call her stepmother something else, and then they can monitor to make sure it is being done. My daughter says she gets in trouble and questioned "WHY" when she calls this woman by her name rather then mom. My son calls her Ms. LLL (her first name) Thanks so much.

You do not say how often they visit their father or whether he has custody and you visit. Either way, it seems fairly petty. If he has custody and you just visit, then they are used to the wife being their "mother figure" most of the time. If you have custody and they just visit, then it seems that it is not that big a deal since they will know as they grow up that calling someone mom and someone being a mom are 2 different things.
