Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

I was engaged to be married....it did not work out....engagement is off and I would like to have the engagement ring returned to me....however the young lady says that she will not return the ring.....do I have a legal course of action that I can take to get ring back......thanks #madashell!!!!

An engagement ring has to be returned to the groom if the wedding is called off. If the ring was given on a birthday or Christmas, some cases have stated that it was a gift and not in contemplation of a marriage (thus, the woman can keep it because it was a gift to her), but even most of those cases go the other way. An engagement ring is not a gift, it is given in anticipation of marriage. Thus, it is pretty iron-clad that the ring has to go back to the would-be-groom if the wedding is called off.
