Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My fiance just found out he has a 2 year old daughter. The girl's parents have taken custody of the child. Now, that he knows about the little girl, he wants to be in her life. After paternity isproven, can he get visitation and eventually have the child live with us?

The court will decide in the best interests of the child. Both parents are presumed to be best unless proven otherwise.

After he files for a determination of paternity and he is proven to be the father, he will be required to pay child support and may be granted some limited visitation until the child gets to know him. At some point he could file for full custody or domiciliary status, but as Ms. Lucas says, the Court will decide best interest.......and that may be that the child stays with the grandparents and your fiance' have visitation rights. Can you answer me one question? Why is it in my 38 years of practicing law I have NEVER had a father ask me the questions you did. It's always the father's girlfriend, or "friend" or new wife. I presume it is because we are lazy when it comes to these things and our needy helpmates always take up the slack.
