Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

find my father

I am 31 yrs. old and I am trying to find my biological father. I have already done DNA testing with 2 out of 3 men whom were named as possibly being my Father. I have located the 3rd man and written him several letters. I haven't gotten a response! I know he received the letters and knows about me. I asked him to do a DNA test to find out but he has never written or called! What are my rights? Can I make him do a DNA test? Please help!!!!!!!!!

Re: find my father

I know no reason why you could force this man to submit to a DNA test to prove paternity of an adult child.

Re: find my father

Dear Law.Guru Friend,

I have read your question. At your age, I would think that the only way you might be able to force this third-party to do a DNA test is to file suit against him alleging that you are his son and that somehow he owes you some support obligation, or somethinglike that. Then perhaps you could have the court to order him to submit to D.N.A. testing. Perhaps you might be able to file a suit against him simply for the purpose of establishing paternity, and then have the court order him to submit to D.N.A. testing as part of discovery. Check the laws in your state for establishment of paternity, and see if one your age can at this late date file suit against a potential defendant to attempt to establish paternity. That is the best answer I can give you without taking the time to really think your question through.

Best of luck!

Sincerely,
