Found biological parent
I recently located a biological parent. Do I have any legal rights to obtain information? Can a parent simply disappear from their childs life and remain free from any responsibility? We are talking about a child born in 1957.

Well, the child is now a major, however, parents and children in La. have a reciproccal duty to support other when in need, as a general rule. Under La. law, you have the right to inherit from the biological parent under certain circumstances.

As you experienced, a parent can disappear and remain free from any responsibility. However, you're probably better off. I believe you do have a right to obtain medical information about him, but if that can be gathered through his relatives, then it should be done through them. If you were adopted, you still can inherit from your biological parents, but in the case of the father, there must be an establishment of paternity at some point. At 45, there would seem little good to come from bothering with a person who did not want to be a parent.
