Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
A friend of mine is currently paying child support to his ex-spouse. I have been trying to get him to go back to court and explain to the judge that he infact has two other children (one of which resides in CA and the other resides in TX) that were not considered when support was being calculated for the child that resulted from his marriage to her, eventhough he is paying support for the other two children . Additionally, he has recently suffered a reduction in pay by about 20,000 dollars yearly. It would be sad to find out that I am advising him incorrectly. Is this grounds for him to go back to court and request a reduction in the amount of support he pays to his ex-spouse once the judge knows that he is paying support for two other children and the recent pay reduction? If not, what other recourse does he have?

Yes. That would be considered a "material change in circumstances". He can ask for a reduction based on those grounds. I strongly recommend that your friend hire an attorney, though.
