Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

i gave up my parental rights to my ex-husband because i am not able to care for a child when she was about 1 year old. she is now 5 years old and my ex-husband filed papers with the prosecutor for child support. can this be true? i live on SSI and can't afford any child support. what should i do?

If your SSI is supplemental security income, it cannot be touched. If it is Social Secuity Disability, then it could be. You just gave custody of your child to her dad, you did not give up all your rights. Is he remarried? Does his wife want to adopt your child? If so, then they may be using the child support as leverage. Do what is best for the child. If it is to pay support, then pay it. If it is to let her be adopted, then do that.
