Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
grandaughter in possible dangerous situation
My granddaughter lives with her mom and visits us every 2 weeks. She is 5 years old. In conversation, she let it slip that Mom passes out several times and she watches the babies until she is better. She also said she couldn't tell us about her stepdad fighting with her mom and the police came. mom had lots of bruises. She only went back to live with her mom a year ago. My son had custody of her because mom was on drugs. He voluntarily gave her back to mom . Is there something my husband and I can do to make sure she is safe? Can we legally fight for custody? I don't want to continue to ask my granddaughter questions about this but am concerned for her. She is the oldest of 3 children--the other children are under 6 months and 2 years old. They are from her current husband.

I agree with Mr. Casanave. The report is anonymous. You can step up and ask for physical custody if the court decides to grant custody to the State. Understand that all the children will be affected by what you do, not just your granddaughter.

You can contact child protection and they can investigate the home. If your son is a fit father he can do what is necessary to regain custody.
