Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Grandparent Rights

My daughter recently passed away leaving an 11 y/o son. She was the custodial parent, never married to the father of the child. He has assumed all rights to the child now. Do I have any options as a grandparent? The child has always lived with me and my daughter. Please advise what I can do. Thank you.

Re: Grandparent Rights

You do have rights so get an attorney if your grandson's father will not let you have some part in your grandson's life.

Re: Grandparent Rights

You can certainly petition the court for visitation rights. Also, if you feel the father is a substantial threat to your grandchild, you may be able to obtain custody.
