Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Hi,
My name is Brian and I live in SC. I had a relationship with a woman in Louisiana and had a baby with her.I question if the child is mine.I mean I do live 800 mile away from her. I also went to court and was ordered to pay child support and at the same time was denied my request for a paternity test.I also didn't have representation at the time. My question is, will the Louisiana courts allow me to have a paternity test done even if I signed the birth certificate? I'm not denying that the child is mine. I just want to know for sure and to give myself that peace of mind.
Please help,
Brian, SC

By signing the birth certificate you said you would be responsible for the child NO MATTER if you are not the biological father!! So, if you must know for sure, file for visitation and when you get it, have the DNA done. But understand, if you are not the bio dad, the result is the same. By acknowledging the child is yours, you were saying "I am responsible no matter what." Not I am responsible until someone else comes along. So, even if you are NOT the bio dad AND the REAL dad showed up, you AND HE could each be paying support.
