Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Hi,
Years ago, I didn't have it all together when my son's father and I broke up. Everything I had, he and his mom had given me. I was basically bullied into signing a petition granting joint custody but making his father the domicile parent. Fast forward and now my son is 8 years old. However, only on paper he has been the domicile parent because anything else I have been handling. For example, doctor appts, dentist appts, school registration, etc. I am ingaged to be married and my fiance and I have built a home in another parish. I have three other kids and they all will be going to school in the new parish. My son's father, however, won't work with me because he keeps holding that paper over my head. The paper stated that we do one week with me and one week with home. But, we haven't always followed it. If he is in a relationship with someone the week to week works great for him. But once he is single and has no more help than its me keeping him and he getting him on the weekends. I feel helpless and it's all because of that stupid judgement. Do I have any rights and what can I do other than just going to register him and the new school and causing World War 29?

You can hire a lawyer and ask the court to change the joint custody judgment to fit the current reality. As children grow and circumstances change it happens all the time.
