new husband wants to adopt my kids
i got married again and my new husband wants to adopt my kids, my ex is abusive and has a anger problem plus drug and alcohol problem. the kids have not seen their dad in 7 years, nor have i gotten any child support in 4 years. i have sole custody of the kids.

Actually, if you can prove the 7 years and 4 years, the an intrafamily adoption should be no problem.

Because you have sole custody adn the father has not had contact with the children for this legnth of time, your husband may adopt the children and the biological father's consent is not necessary. He will have to be given notice of the proceeding, and the Court will still have to find that the aoption is in the children's best interest, but that is likely considering these facts. This would be an intrafamily adoption, and this type of adoption can usually be completed within a relatively short period of time.
