Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
My husband blackmails me with recordings of private conversations and arguments from before we were married to now. Uses them to threaten my job, custody, finances if we get divorced. Is that legal?

Blackmail is never legal. Consult a lawyer to discuss what is in those recordings.
I agree with Mr. Casanave and would add that the recordings could be used but I would object to anything before you were married since they are considered as forgiven once he married you. And if he lets others listen that brings you embarassment and/or causes job loss, then you may have a civil suit against him. Why would you care if he used them in the divorce? The only possible thing that might be affected is alimony. Also, when you file, obtain a temporary restraining order against him contacting or bothering you or contacting your job etc. Also, demand of copy of all recordings he has and may try to use against you. Finally, I assume you have llistened to what he has and not taken his word for it.
