Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My husband wants to divorce me after 14 years of marriage and 25 years of living together. He owns the home we live in and my name is not on it. 10 years ago he bought the property his business is on. I found the property and worked with the real estate broker, did all the leg work. He says i don't have rights to that either. I pay the bills at the house, and have furnished it. I paid 10 years ago for a pool to be put in. I want to know what my legal rights are in this state. thanks kay

Since you did not mention a prenuptual agreement, I assume there is none. You certainly have a claim for moneys of yours spent on his property prior to your marriage. After marriage, your income and his income became the community's income. Therefore anything paid on his separate property by the community is credited 1/2 to you even if you had no income or your contribution to the community was less than his. Anything purchased during the marriage is considered owned by the community and each spouse owns a 1/2 interest unless it is proven to have been paid by one spouse's separate funds. Even if you each had separate bank accounts, any income going into those accounts during the marriage is owned equally by the spouses. Those are the bare basics. There are nuances, so see an attorney.
