Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

My husband and have been raising our 3 year old God daughter for almost 2 years now with no contact fromantic the mother since Jan. 28th of this year. The mother has been recently arrested and there is no father on the birth certificate. Mother will not give us any legal guardian ship or other type of custody. Where do we stand legally?

Get a lawyer and file for custody. The child needs stability and eventually will need someone to register for school.
