Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

inheritance

My father & I are both on his all his accounts. I am his only caregiver, my siblings are not good people. My father is about to die. He made a will, leaving me everthing, but giving my siblings a gift of $10,000. He wanted to give these siblings thier $$ before he died. I wrote them each a check yesterday. I made a copy of these checks for my records( on the check I put that it was inheritance from my Daddy. My question is: Will they be able to come back at me for more $$ after Daddy passes? Will I be taxed on the money and will I be able be able to get the money ($250,000.00) if it is already in a joint account?

Re: inheritance

If your siblings are over 23 years of age and not mentally incompetent, then he can leave you everything. Unfortunately, you will have to pay some tax on your inheritance at that level. You will not be able to get the money out of the accounts unless the banks let you do it.

Re: inheritance

They would get another $10,000.00 as the will is giving them $10,000 after your father's death.
