Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

I'm a lady who got married in Morocco 5 years ago with a US citizen (also Moroccan). I came to the US via a spouse visa in 2007. I am a green card holder and a Louisiana resident. we have a 2 years old kid. I'm eligible to apply for citizenship but i didn't apply for the following problems. Things are no longer working out between us. I'm planning to file for divorce. should i go to Morocco (place of marriage) to file it? or i can do it here in Louisiana? how long does it take (i'd like to ask a full custody for my kid). Please answer. I have no idea what should i do in this difficult time. Thank you

In general, if you and your spouse are both living in the U.S., a foreign citizen can obtain a divorce on U.S. land under the same circumstances that a citizen could obtain one. You must have resided at least 6 months in Louisiana. A divorce can be obtained after six months living separate and apart. You can file and ask for custody, etc, then wait the six months to obtain the divorce.
