Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Legal compensation for time lost, $$ spent

If we sue someone for contempt of court/contract, are we able to also sue for wages lost, travel expenses, etc.? My husband has been denied visitation with his daughter, so we are suing his exwife for contempt of court. Should he be legally justified in suing her for lost wages and travel expenses because he had to travel the entire distance to pick up his daughter (and I might add that this was accomplished with police help) rather than half way as it is written in his divorce decree? What are the ''rules'' concerning this type of situation? Thanks!

What you would be awarded depends on the judge. Usually if one is found in contempt, the court awards attorney's fees and costs and if a sentence of incarceration is imposed, it is suspended unless there is further disobedience, i.e., no further problems, no jail. I haven't seen lost wages, etc awarded to a litigant. Of course, in your motion for contempt, it wouldn't hurt to ask the court for any relief to which one feels entitled.
