Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

How long should it take to rule on a child visitation case when taken under advi

I went to court on Sept. 29, 2004 to modify my child support obligation and visitation rights. It has been over 11 weeks and the judge still has not ruled on my case. Is this a normal period of time to have to wait? I had read a law, R.S. 13:4207, which states that a judgment should be rendered w/in 30 days from the time the case is submitted for the judge's decision. I had really wanted to spend some time w/my daughter over the holidays.

You are correct when you point out that a Judge has 30 days to render a decision and this often puts attorneys in a bind. The only time I pointed that law out to a Judge who took too long was to get a judgment that I certainly didn't want. Perhaps you can ask your attorney to ask the judge when a decision could be expected. Yours, Steve
