Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
My mother recently passed away. I am her only heir. My family has been in negotiations with the Road Home in Louisiana concerning property owned by my grandparents affected by Hurricane Katrina. I have been told that I need to produce a Judgement of Possession. What is this document and how difficult will it be to obtain?

You will need to open a succession to settle your mother's estate. Part of the succession will be the judgment of possession, legally recognizing you as your mother's heir and owner of any properties in which she had an interest. It is more than likely a small succession unless she owned a lot of property, had a lot of debt or had complex investments. You should engage an attorney in your area that handles successions.
