Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Help!

Is it right for someone to be ordered to pay child support, even if they're still with the person & living together? Also, what if the custodial parent gets married, moves to a different state & both parties of the marriage make 6 digit salaries, is there any chance the non-custodial parent can get the support order lowered?

Re: Help!

If the parents live together, they can stipulate that both parents are paying reasonable child support and get the court to recognize this.

If the parents are in separate states, then the non-custodial parent has a support obligation (even if they both have great incomes). The child is entitled to benefit from the financial wealth of his/her parents.

Re: Help!

Although unusual, if the person ordered to pay support was not contributing to the child's support, it matters not that the parents were living together. The support is owed to the child and is paid to the domiciliary parent, and while the amount to be paid is computed using each parent's income, each still owes support.
