Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Preparing For Divorce

My wife and I have been married for six years. We argue quite a bit but have had some excellent times together as well. We recently had an argument that landed me in jail for Simple Battery. Whether or not I am innocent of the charge is another story. My wife did not press charges nor wants to continue to prosecute this situation. She is signing papers stating she didn't want me arrested. Now that being said, I love her more than words can describe...and I wanted to be the one to have wheelchair races with her when we grew really old. Now, my mind is telling me it is smarter to call it quits...So I am. She never worked, and I have supported her and my daughter. I have a house that we built last year and we have agreed on that I will keep it since she cannot pay for it. What should I do about the furniture? Everything in my house is brand new. I don't care what she takes as long as my daughter has a bed to lay in at night. What should I do about custody when some of her own family members is 100% behind me all the way? There are not many people rooting for her at this point because they know the truth and they know how she can be. Any suggestions is appreciated. This is my first time being married and having to do this. Thanks.

Re: Preparing For Divorce

If you want a divorce, find a lawyer that you trust. So many of your questions are more personal than legal. Others are so individual that more information is needed.

A good lawyer will discuss this with you and help you find your own answers. There is no one right answer for everyone. Get someone to help you find the right answer that fits your situation.
