Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

I am in the process of filing for a divorce from my husband of 25 years. I have just found out that he has been committing adultery for some time now. The worst thing is that I needed to go attend to my mother that was diagnosed with cancer and the day I left to go to Ohio, my husband was wining and dining another woman at a very expensive chinese resteraunt in Lafayette, Louisiana. I have found all of the reciepts and then I have uncovered the phone records in which they have been communicating up to 5 times a day since October and maybe evven before. My husband and I have a lot of assets that will need to be divided and for the last three years I have had no access to any of our money. How do I go about making sure that he doesn't dwindle all of our money away so that he doesn't have to give me any? He has already threatened to do so. I am scared but I am determined not to stay with a cheater. I can not live everyday wondering if he is calling this person or sneaking away to see this person. What should I do?

Respectfully,

Annette Tripkovich

Ms. Tripkovich, you will need to file a motion within your divorce suit to prevent him from alienating assets. Your attorney should be doing this for you as you say you are in the process of filing. The adultery will get you a quick divorce but that may not be to your advantage. You may need longer spousal support than you may end up with in divorce based on adultery. If you choose to go that way, you will need your phone records and eye witnesses to his affair. Be sure you discuss all of the advantages and disadvantages with your attorney.

You need to get a competent, yet not money hungry divorce attorney to represent you and protect your interests. Do not delay.
