Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
I realize that some emails sent to me stating that I've won a lottery or I've been left an inheritance may be scams, but if there is a valid one, is it illegal for me to accept this money, and will I bear the burden to prove I didn't realize the money was laundered, if that was the case, and even if the money was handled legally, will I still be able to accept the money without any legal liability other than having to pay taxes? In addition, have there been any changes in the laws regulating final spousal support, in as far as it can still be permanent, and cannot exceed one third of the payor's income? If my final spousal support was originally a consent judgment for permanent spousal support, if the rules change concerning not allowing it to continue indefinitely, will that apply to my 2010 Judgment which says permanent? Thank you very much, Liat Krush

Money which is illegal or is part of an illegal scheme can be seized whether the person receiving it is part of the illegal enterprise or not. If you were awarded permanent alimony in 2010, the payor will have to show some significant reason why it should be discontinued. Permanent alimony has not been the law in Louisiana for some time-in order for it to have been awarded, there must have been an agreement or extraordinary circumstances which warranted it.
